Some of this steam is utilized to produce heating heat through heat exchange. Due to this production process, the power plant consumes a significant amount of water.
In particular, due to the geographical characteristics of the power plant being located inland, it consumes more than 90% of its water usage as cooling water, and water consumption is greatly influenced by the power generation during the summer season. The goal is to minimize water usage, reduce wastewater discharge, and decrease the discharge of water pollutants to protect water quality.
Furthermore, high-quality discharged water is continuously recovered and reused.
The company utilizes treated water for recycling water resources and reducing freshwater consumption.
In 2022, it achieved a water reuse rate of 15% through the annual reuse of 10,931 tons of treated water.

Additionally, the company focuses on resource conservation and improvement in recycling to minimize waste generation. Generated waste is properly disposed of through waste disposal service providers. For household waste generated at their facilities, the company provides separate collection bins to promote recycling.
Furthermore, all waste fluorescent lamps are managed for recycling by the Korean Association for Lighting Recycling.
The company makes efforts to minimize the generation of general waste, designated waste, and construction waste from the source. Generated waste is sorted by type and characteristics to maximize reuse and recycling.
Designated waste and waste adsorbents that are recyclable and reusable are managed through specialized companies for such purposes.

Furthermore, the company enhances transparency in air quality management by continuously monitoring air pollutants 24/7 using an automatic chimney monitoring system.
The Bucheon Power Plant developed a metal-type SCR that improved upon the shortcomings of existing catalysts through a national research project. This technology was successfully applied to the Bucheon Power Plant, alleviating the challenges of NOx reduction. Based on these achievements, GS Power continues to contribute to improving the air quality in the metropolitan area.
Furthermore, the company monitors air pollutant emissions 24/7 through the Tele Monitoring System (TMS) and provide real-time information to the Korea Environmental Corporation to transparently manage environmental data. Moreover, the company manages air pollutants at levels exceeding integrated environmental permit requirements through the proactive introduction of new prevention facilities, including advanced technologies like direct-injection SCR and iron oxide dust collectors.
In particular, in 2022, the comany achieved an average emission concentration of 6 ppm, which is lower than the integrated environmental permit requirement of 8 ppm, resulting in a reduction of approximately 48% compared to the allocated limit. Externally, the company actively participates in agreements such as the Incheon City Blue Sky Agreement and voluntary agreements for fine dust reduction to contribute to reducing fine dust and minimizing environmental impacts in the local community.

The amount of chemical substance usage is significantly influenced by the quality of water and the production volume of pure water at industrial water intake sources such as Baek-un Reservoir and Pal-dang Water Source (Anyang) and Pal-dang Water Source (Bucheon). However, as the supply of heat to the surrounding areas expands, the usage of pure water is expected to increase, leading to a steady rise in chemical substance usage.
The chemicals used are managed in accordance with relevant regulations such as the Chemical Control Act and the Industrial Safety and Health Act. The company has improved the concentration of chemicals used within the Anyang and Bucheon combined heat and power plants, completing the closure of businesses involving the use of hazardous chemicals. Furthermore, the company applies the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) to some chemical substances, demonstrating their commitment to chemical substance management.
Since 2013, the company has formed a joint chemical safety management community among large, medium, and small enterprises in the western (Bucheon Power Plant) and southern (Anyang Power Plant) regions of the metropolitan area. This community actively supports small and medium-sized enterprises in operating and managing chemical substance regulations and methods. The company also participates in and conduct national crisis response drills.
As a PSM* regulated facility, the company efficiently manages chemicals through regular MSDS** maintenance and updates.
