Power and Groud Energy

Power and Groud Energy

GS Energy is committed to providing stable electricity and heat through its power and collective energy businesses, and it is dedicated to strengthening its business capabilities to create future growth opportunities.

Through GS Power's combined heat and power (CHP) plants, GS Energy produces electricity and heat, with a particular focus on supplying heat to the Anyang and Bucheon new towns. Furthermore, by acquiring stakes in Cheongra Energy and Incheon Total Energy, GS Energy has established a large-scale heat supply network covering the southwestern part of the metropolitan area, serving around 700,000 households. Through these efforts, GS Energy maximizes the effects of its collective energy business, which include significant energy savings, greenhouse gas reduction through improved energy efficiency, diversification of the national power supply through distributed power generation, and enhanced energy convenience for the residential and industrial sectors. Additionally, GS Energy has entered the power generation sector by acquiring shares in New Pyeongtaek Power and Dongducheon Dream Power, expanding its presence in the rapidly changing power market to address climate change.
Furthermore, GS Energy aims to build the foundation for expanding its power business and securing stable revenue by continuously exploring power project opportunities both domestically and internationally, including in Southeast Asia.

GS Power

GS Power was selected as the final bidder in a competitive bidding process for the acquisition of the Anyang and Bucheon combined heat and power plants and district heating facilities as part of the privatization of the Korea Electric Power Corporation's generation sector and the conversion of public enterprises by the government. The asset transfer agreement was signed on June 22, 2000, and full-scale operations began on September 1 of the same year.

GS Energy will produce EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate), a key material for solar module sheets, with an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons. It will secure a stable supply of ethylene, the raw material, through GS Caltex and supply EVA to global solar component manufacturers through Hanwha Solutions. By investing in the production of solar materials and components, GS Energy aims to take a step forward in implementing carbon neutrality policies to address climate change.

  • Power Generation Business

Combined heat and power plant of comfortable environment | Combined heat and power generation plant is a comprehensive plant system that produces electricity and heat simultaneously, maximizing energy efficiency by supplying electricity and heat as needed. GS Power is contributing to the stable supply of electricity in the metropolitan area through LNG combined heat and power plants (Ansan 500MW, Bucheon 450MW).

  • District Heating and Cooling Business

Convenient and Economical District Heating and Cooling | District heating and cooling supply heat to the entire area 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, using heat economically produced from centralized large-scale facilities such as combined heat and power plant instead of having individual heating and cooling systems in each building. GS Power supplies environmentally friendly and stable district heating and cooling to approximately 380,000 households in the metropolitan area, utilizing heat produced during the cogeneration process as well as waste heat.

  • Energy Efficiency Business

As a business providing optimal energy-saving solutions for recovering unused energy and improving the energy efficiency of existing energy-consuming facilities, GS Power offers solutions for optimal energy facility improvements and process enhancements based on its experience in the design, construction, and post-management of user facilities. Through this, GS Power creates energy savings and greenhouse gas reduction effects in user facilities such as Incheon Total Energy, Anyang Incineration Plant, and Banwol Dyeing Complex.

  • District Heating

District heating supplies heat (hot water) produced economically from large-scale heat sources (hot water) to various buildings such as apartments, houses, stores, and offices in a specific area, without installing individual heat production facilities in each building.

  • District Cooling

District cooling is an advanced cooling system that brings about a reduction in summer peak power demand caused by the use of alternative energy sources such as remaining heat, using hot water economically produced from large-scale heat sources and converting it into cold water through a conversion facility. It also contributes to improving the atmospheric environment by using water as a refrigerant instead of greenhouse gases that cause global warming.

  • New Renewable Energy Business

Solar Power Generation | Operating a total of approximately 10,000 kW capacity, including Anyang/Bucheon Combined Heat and Power Plants and GS Retail Logistics Centers
Fuel Cell Power Generation | A technology that converts the chemical energy of hydrogen and oxygen into electricity, resulting in a significant reduction in carbon emissions
Small Hydropower and Wind Power Generation | Operating Gwangju Water Purification Plant Hydropower Generation and Gyeongju Industrial Complex Wind Power Generation.
ESS (Energy Storage System) | Installing and operating at Combined Heat and Power Plants to reduce peak power loads.
